Could we make our workplaces and public spaces more friendly and engaging? As implied in this article , one way might be to employ a system that tracks and displays peoples' moods and then use this system to provide an opportunity for self-reflection. People could be encouraged to regulate their own mood using this feedback-loop: "Because the system’s "intuition" comes from data, it can display the emotional profile of whole buildings by interpreting the visual signatures from many rooms and camera feeds once."

Crazy, you say? Consider: numerous scientific studies suggest that our facial expressions can affect our moods and emotions dramatically , whether or not they are reflective of our true inner feelings. People who smile, even if they don't feel like smiling, actually start to feel happier. Fake it 'til you make it applies here.

Cameras, social media tools and photo software already track faces and do the work of helping us find and recognize our friends. What if we could go a step further and get the "emotional temperature" of our day or our online presence? Or what if we could use them to create friendly, accessible "experiences" at hospitals and schools?

After all, the most frequently-used "user interface" is the face-to-face. Let's start optimizing it!
