Square is set to disrupt not only the inane payments-processing industry, but even the way people deal with credit and capital. But before it can do that, it needs to pervade deeper into the mainstream. It looks like they just managed to get a giant foot in the door according to this article in Wired :

"Mobile payments startup Square is taking a giant leap into the mainstream as the new processor of credit- and debit-card payments for Starbucks. About 7,000 Starbucks stores across the U.S. will start using Square this fall. When they do, the startup founded in 2009 will reach a level of visibility orders of magnitude beyond its current status as the preferred way for farmers’ markets and food trucks to take plastic."

This will be one area to watch over the next year. We could see some major shifts in that industry sooner than we think.
