Fantasy Election '12  is an experiment by MTV aimed at getting "us closer to the democracy we deserve." Its goal is to improve political engagement for youth voters.

It's a take on fantasy sports leagues, allowing players to build a dream team of candidates from the 2012 US political race, and compete using scores based on honesty, transparency, and key issues. Players can manage their team, play with friends, share via social media, complete challenges, earn bonus points, and check-in to events. All the things. It's essentially an "accountability dashboard" wrapped in a gamified interface.

We think this project is worth watching—it's a great example of games-based-learning principles (simulation, empathy, domain mastery, learning through failure) applied to relevant and nearly real-time, real-world data. Plus it positions the MTV brand as socially-responsible and informed, yet unbiased. Very smart.
